One of the scariest and most heart wrenching experiences a family can go through is to watch a loved one's mental capacity deteriorate. If this happens without Lasting Power of Attorney's (LPA's) in place, family are forced to apply to the Court of Protection for Deputyship, should they wish to regain control. The issue with this is that it is both time consuming and extremely expensive, often taking months and costing thousands in court and legal fees.
LPA's are both a time and cost efficient way for you to have your say on who you would like and who you trust to take control should you be unable to make decisions for yourself. There are two types - Property & Finance and Health & Welfare.
Property and Finance LPA - This ensures that someone you know and trust can maintain your financial affairs on a daily basis if required. For example, they can maintain your bank accounts, investments, property and bills on your behalf.
Health and Welfare LPA - This ensures that someone you know and trust can make important decisions regarding your health and care.
